The death of Annie Wersching, the actress best known for her roles on “Star Trek: Picard,” “24,” “Bosch” and “Timeless” has sent shockwaves throughout the entertainment industry. Wersching passed away at the age of 45 on Sunday morning, with the cause being cancer.
Wersching was a talented actress who brought life to iconic characters such as the Borg Queen on “Star Trek: Picard,” the police officer Julia Brasher on “Bosch,” the engineer Emma Whitmore on “Timeless,” and the special FBI agent Renee Walker on “24.” She was also the voice behind the character Tess in the video game “The Last of Us” and its recent television adaptation on HBO.
Playing the Borg Queen was a challenge for Wersching, as she described it in an interview with the Paramount+ show “The Ready Room” as “certainly a little intimidating.” But she went ahead with her interpretation and performance of the iconic role, bringing her unique touch to the character.
Wersching was a joy to work with, according to executive producer of “Picard,” Akiva Goldsman. In a statement, Goldsman referred to Wersching as a “gift” and an “utter joy” and expressed his heartbreak at her loss.
Director and producer of “24,” Jon Cassar, also mourned the loss of Wersching, describing her as a colleague and a friend who entered his world with an open heart and a contagious smile. “Brandishing such talent, she took my breath away.” Cassar added, “She’ll be truly missed.”
Wersching was born and raised in St. Louis by her parents, Sandy and Frank Wersching. She is survived by her husband, the actor Stephen Full, and their three children, Freddie, Ozzie, and Archie Full.
Wersching’s husband remembered her as a person who found wonder in the simplest moments and taught her family not to wait for adventure to find them. “There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today,” Full said in a statement. “But she left us the tools to fill it.”
